What Should Be Added To Burnout Paradise

Burnout Paradise is unprecedented in it’s post-release support. The folks from Guildford are adding Bikes, Night/Day cycles among another host of game changing modifications. It’s great to see but there are a few little niggles that still stand out and Criterion have proven that anything is possible within this game world. Here’s a few of our picks if we got to make an update.
Crash Mode
Showtime mode is a great way to relieve some tension from failing an event. You can hop into at any time and it always produces insane crashes along with decent puzzle aspects. But it’s no Crash Mode. The mode that has been in every Burnout game since the original over seven years ago was missing from Paradise and it does tell. It would go against the whole no load times thing but if the game can generate cars in Showtime then it could for a Crash Mode. Let’s just say you press both bumpers at a junction and your straight into Crash Mode.
More Stunts
If Flatspins are possible in Paradise City then why can’t I hold forward or backward on the stick to do flips. This could really come down to different ramps. Also we’ve got ramps that allow Barrel Rolls then why not have more of a vertical ramp that would launch you up like a quarter pipe. With Cagney they took the idea of the Rodeo trick and presented to everyone through the radio system but I feel like they haven’t explored all tricks possible in a car. Obviously Bikes will add their own tricks like Wheels and End-O’s.
Capture The Flag
That’s right a mode where it’s 4 on 4 where your objective is to capture the opposing teams flag. The flag could be changed hands by either contact or a Takedown. This would obviously have to be played on a smaller area. You could also expand this mode to a free for all game where there is one flag and one drop off point. If it was made so the drop-off and capture points where randomly generated this game could provide hours of enjoyment.

Restart Mode
Alright this option is a highly debatable one. Nobody likes loading screens and that is what the lack of restart mode avoids but nobody likes driving back to an event. This is something that you will inevitably need to do later on in the game. Towards the closing end of the game to achieve your elite license you have to put in a lot of pointless driving that would easily avoided by the option of a restart. Maybe just put this in when you are down to your final ten or twenty events.
Skippable Crashes
When you first pop in Burnout Paradise you’ll enjoy crashing so much that you’ll crash for giggles, just to see the amazing physics at work. After acquiring your Burnout licence you’ll be bored of watching your self crash. Crashes later on become a way of frustrating you into pulling your hair out. Again maybe you could unlock this with your Burnout License towards the tail end of the game.
Planes, Boats & Quad Bikes, Oh My!
With the addition of normal bikes and the rumours of planes coming to Paradise City why not have more. Boats and Jet Skis would be great additions especially with the giant lake in the middle of the City. There is also more room for expansion with the massive amount of water around the new island that dock areas. All of the off-road areas would be great for Quad Bikes or even Monster Trucks but these would require more of a hillside expansion that could offer muddy paths to take full advantage of them.
This are all just some ideas a Burnout Addict has come to ponder while racing around Paradise City. Most of these would make great additions to the already excellent post-release support for Burnout Paradise.
