The Best of Fake Hardware Concepts

We have all seen the odd 3d model of a product that looks so damn sexy you would need a few minutes alone with it. Then you find out that its fake and cry yourself to sleep for a while.

Fine maybe that’s just me but the point is they do look very nice and although we can only dream they are nice to look at.

iPSP

The iPSP, is a neat idea. What would happen if Sony & Apple came together and designed one handheld system. It will never happen but if they did I’m not sure if I like the result. The problem with the PSP is that it doesn’t have two analog sticks while the iPSP has no analog sticks, it doesn’t even have a D-pad. Still it looks pretty nice.

Nintendo Ds 2k8

Personally I’m not a big fan of iterations on previous consoles. Yes, the DS Lite was a good upgrade and it did make Nintendo trucks and trucks of money but the amount of re-designs the Game Boy got was ridiculous especially the ones that don’t change much.

Apart from the bigger screens this DS mock up doesn’t add much but I’d easily buy it because it looks so damn nice. It looks like a sucker for fingerprints though.

PSP Slide

Does this really need explaining, It’s what the PSP needs. This is the re-design that it needed instead of a slightly slimmer version that they announced last year. Two sticks, DualShock layout and a nice big screen would make this a must buy.

It’s a shame that the shoulder buttons are actually those buttons on the side.

Sony PSP Phone

Seen in an official magazine the Sony Ericsson PSP Phone might actually exist but with that amount of shine would you really want it?

Solar Powered PSP

It seems that the most popular mock ups are of PSP’, maybe that’s because it needs the most improvement…maybe. Although the battery life on a PSP is acceptable would you want a solar powered PSP? It looks a little too clunky for my tastes.

Nintendo DS Squared

Another DS mock up for you here and although I like 16:9 screens this concept looks a little too rigid and not comfortable at all. I’d prefer the shiner DS above but it has to be said that this design inspired the ‘Nintendo DS 2k8′.

SNES PC

And finally here is the original official concept for what the SNES would look like. Lets be happy that this design never actually happened. Lets be honest if it did happen the shape of the industry would be a lot different. You’ve got to love that tape player on the left though.

So what have we learnt from all this? Well it’s that unofficial designs can look better than the real thing but more importantly they can look shiner
