Playstation 3 Clockgate: Public Service Announcement

Written by Sam Morris On 1 March

Playstation 3’s seem to be suffering from some March Madness as all around the world people are waking up to faulty systems. Originally thought to be a Playstation Network error, the system has been affected by supposed leap year issues as apparently this is the first even non-leap-year year the system has been out.

Even playing stuff offline will result in a, now infamous, 8001050F error code and we’ve been getting reports of missing downloadable content, DLC and the rest of it. So for this reason we would advise staying way clear of your big black box, until the problems have been sorted – see this as a friendly public service announcement.

From The Editor: March 2010

Written by Sam Morris On 1 March

Could someone name another form of entertainment that has important releases to look forward to every fortnight?

I’m really struggling here. That’s struggling with both the question and the number of games to keep up on. Not that I’m complaining, it’s been great, hasn’t it?

I hope everyone enjoyed the packed month that was February. We’ve had reviews of Bioshock 2, Dante’s Inferno, S.T.A.L.K.E.R, MAG and many more. It’s probably also worth mentioning that Heavy Rain became the 18th game to be entered into our Editor’s Choice Gallery – something that we don’t hand out lightly. It was definitely a short but sweet month full of notable releases.

Those notable release aren’t going to dry up too soon, March is a month packed full of massive releases. We’ll be covering all the big releases from Bad Company to Yakuza 3, with everything in-between, and yes that includes Final Fantasy XIII.

As far as the site goes, we’ll be wrapping up our six article series on video game addiction, The Priory, with Jason Joo on Harvest Moon 64. I would like to personally thank every writer and reader who was involved with The Priory, it was a great success and something that we’ll return to at a later date. Continuing throughout the whole of March will be our Desert Island Games column – I’ve already had a sneak peek at a few of them, some interesting choices – along with reviews of all the latest and, hopefully, greatest games.

Thanks for your continued support of Nidzumi

Take Care,

From The Editor: February 2010

Written by Sam Morris On 2 February

I hope anyone didn’t blink and miss was what a busy January as it’s now the month that nobody can pronounce because of that awkward r and surprisingly games are afoot. I initially thought that every game running scared of Modern Warfare 2 was a bad thing, it showed a lack of confidence in their own game and left 2009’s Christmas very one dimensional. Luckily 2009 was full of other non-Modern Warfare games to get us by, oh and Modern Warfare 2 lived up to the hype.

This smart strategy of moving your game away from the big release to a month full of releases is now, somehow paying off. Last month games like Bayonetta, VVVVVV and Mass Effect 2 got the recognition they deserved because of this Indian summer.

We’re entering the second period of this extended Christmas period and we’ll be covering the important releases like Bioshock 2, MAG, Heavy Rain and more. We’ll also telling tales of video game addiction in our mini-column, The Priory. The first of which went up last Friday and features freelancer, Martin Gaston, telling us of Counterstrike addiction. We’ve got one podcast ready to go along with another planned for later in the month.

Looks like another blink-and-you’ll-miss-it month.

Take care,
Sam Morris – Editor In Chief

Swish Suisse: A New Look For 2010

Written by Sam Morris On 25 January

Welcome to the new look Nidzumi for 2010. We’ve made some changes around here to reflect our increase in content and the way we’ll be going forward throughout the year.

It’s a radical change but it’s one that we felt needed to happen. The constantly changing backgrounds were great but not accessible, so instead of backgrounds we now have large and image rich headers for every single article. We’ve also cleaned up the design a lot, it will work correctly on more browsers and our improvements will make content easier and more enjoyable to access.

Let’s start with the Home Page, here we have our last three featured articles across the top along with easy-to-access recent article panes for both reviews and features. Meanwhile our The Review Page has been changed to reflect platforms rather than a massive list.

We’ve also added a new section called ‘Editor’s Choice’ for games that have received the highest – 5 out of 5 stars – rating we can give. We’ve only given out 37 of these in two years and we’ve reviewed nearly 200 games in that short space of time, so you can be assured that these games are quality throughout.

We also have separate pages for our sporadically updated Podcast and Staff Blog. Both of which, will be featured more on the site with more regular shows and frequent posts, respectively.

Individual articles also have a few neat features we feel you should be aware of. The sidebar will be populated with related posts, a short bio on the writer – along with a sexy photo – and a plethora of specific and site-wide information.

We all hope you enjoy the new look site, let us know what you think below – good or bad – in the comments.

Thanks & take care,
Sam Morris

Written by Sam Morris On 21 January

At the tail end of last year we ran a competition in conjunction with Brady Games for some of their damn helpful Modern Warfare 2 strategy guides. After enjoying a lengthy break, we’re back, and have the winners of the intel.

D. Timothy from Coventry has won the Prestige bumper guide, meanwhile, C. MacLennan of Argyll and I. Coull of Angus have won the regular editions.

Congratulations to our three winners and better luck next time for anyone who missed out, we’ll have new competitions soon.
