Finally An Excuse To Talk About Jet Set Radio

There are normally loads of rumours floating around within the industry and most of the time it’s easier to just ignore than eventually get disappointed. Unfortunately when rumours of a new Jet Set Radio game get proposed they become hard to ignore. Anyone who played the original Dreamcast tag ‘em up should understand.

According to reports from Comic-Con, Sega are preparing for an announcement of a new Jet Set Radio game to possibly be on the Wii. Ignore the fact that it will require the Wii-mote to be held like a spray can while you tag a place up. Personally I’m hoping for it to be on the Playstation 3 or Xbox 360 because Jet Set Radio needs to be done right although saying that, if a Wii JSR supports the controller then it’s all good.

The rumours chances of being true are improved by the recent trademark filed by Sega. One that’s separate from the original and one that was just made last week. So Sega are definitely planning something.

Here’s hoping for a next-gen version of Jet Set Radio with the series staple trademarks like a fantastic soundtrack and cel-shaded visuals. Although the idea of a Wii Jet Set Radio still seems cool obviously it would be better suited to a true next-gen system that can offer more processing power. Although I’d take Jet Set Radio now anyway I can take it.

If you think about it the only reason this series has been so beloved by everyone is because they’ve only really made two games for it (ignoring the GBA version). The problem with say, Sonic is that they’ve made the most games possible and taken away the magic slightly. Meanwhile take Jet Set Radio or Shenmue and as they’ve only made a handful of games they haven’t worn away at that magic and they haven’t really had a chance to make a bad game yet. So maybe a Jet Set Radio 3 game wouldn’t be so welcome.

Wait what?!? Of course it would. Jet Set Radio was one of those quirky franchises that can never be overplayed-out or ruined right?

So your comment section says to be nice why not the article too? Who still uses the term ‘true next gen’? This game would fit perfectly and best suited for the Wii. The style of this game screams Nintendo which Sega must recongnize seeing that the rumor is it going to the Wii. Regular simple controls do not make a better game it would make it more traditional and make it seem like the very same game that came out all those years ago. New play for a great game would be a warm welcome. You could say the true next gen is gameplay not looks.
