FarCry 2’s Multiplayer : Advanced Map Editor & 16 Player DM

We got a chance to talk to a few of the developers who are working on FarCry 2 at the recent play.com Live event and after getting a walk through of a level in the single player campaign we had a few questions about the games multi player.

Expect full support for 16 players across all versions including Xbox 360, PC & Playstation 3. You can then engage in your basic multiplayer match types such as Team Deathmatch, Deathmatch, Capture The Flag etc…

The real tidbit that got me excited about this game was the map editor, that would not only come with the PC version but would be a full feature on the console versions as well. We saw Halo 3 dabble with map editors with Forge but although you had a lot of control over the maps you were limited within the geometry of the set maps. FarCry 2 will allow you to do “Whatever the f**k you want” within the game’s map editor. You can reshape terrain, move around and place vegetation and then share your maps online. Unforuntley I couldn’t get any information on how the maps would be shared although they are set to make an announcement about it soon.

To be honest, I wasn’t too interested in FarCry 2 after the way the first game went but after having a chance to talk to developers, I’ve gone 180. Plus without the Trigens, that plagued the first game and now the new map editor functions, I’m fully on board with this feature-rich shooter.

[UPDATE] Let me stress that the editor will be a feature on the console versions. The PC version also has it but it was kind of expected.

A full write up about the games single player will be on Nidzumi within the week.
