With so many games that are available to download these days, its hard to decide a clear winner for the Best Downloadable for 2009. This year has seen a ridiculous amount of XBLA games not to mention all of the games on the PSN and now the PSP Go. It’s clear that downloadable games are here to stay. However one game has definitely risen above the rest in just about every way shape and form.

When Trials HD busted onto the scene earlier this year it brought with it a simple go from point A to point B concept. Ride your dirt bike over various obstacles and get to the finish line and while this seems like the easiest thing in the world, gamers everywhere found a enormous challenge. Trials quickly became a jaw dropping and controller breaking experience that was excellently paced, you were eased into the concept and then slapped back down to earth with the fiendishly difficult latter stages.
We’ll admit to this looking the weak link in another wise great Summer of Arcade, but we were stunned with the mass of content that still keeps us away from the so-called major releases. With amazing visuals, several challenges, mini games and the sheer joy of completing a level on your hundredth attempt Trials HD is hands down, our best downloadable game of 2009.
Trials HD

Pixeljunk Shooter
Eden won last year and Shooter was so close to pinching this one at the death as well. A simple idea, excellent executed on, sounds like another quality pixeljunk release.
Shatter
You take classic Breakout then throw in a bunch of physics, turn the level into a circle and back it all up with an excellent soundtrack. Shatter might have been short and probably didn’t expand on the groundwork but it was one hell of a ride.
Magic The Gathering
Definitely not the coolest game you can play on Xbox Live but in terms of longevity and actual content, Magic The Gathering was one of the most complete launches of the year.
Flower
Is it a game or is it art? Let’s not even attempt to bring up that old chesnut, all I know is that Flower is a unique experience that deserves to be played by anyone, gamers and non-gamers alike.
