Take a quick look at the screenshots for Edge and just take a guess at what type of game this is. You will be forgiven for saying Puzzler because the truth is that Edge although it looks puzzlish it’s really a platformer. Intrigued?
Your goal is simple get the cube to the end of the level by activating switches, rolling up stairs and clinging onto the level. While you might only have 26 levels to play through, they are all unique and have enough variation to keep you busy for a while. Whether it be simple contraptions you have to avoid or turning into a giant cube man, the game has a good way of surprising you every step of the way. On top of this, you will be graded on your speed up to an S+ rank and hardcore players will find some value in improving their grade.
Edge is described as an original game that is suited for the platform and although we wholeheartedly agree that it’s truly original we aren’t so sure on the suited for the platform part. Sure the small levels and quick improvements you can make on your ranks bode well for short bursts but this game really deserves better controls that could have been implemented with a analog stick or d-pad.

This is because you control the game by touching the corners of the screen to make the cube rotate in that direction. Simple enough but these controls become the bain of Edge’s existence especially during the latter stages of game. You can only think that if this was on a PSP or the Xbox Live Arcade, Edge would be a sure fire hit but the controls don’t appear as responsive as they should be. It’s a shame really.
Although with that said Edge can be what you want it to be. The controls aren’t great but they aren’t terrible enough to be a major barrier to entry. The game can be a short hour experience or it can be long time trial type game were you try to improve your rankings. You really get out of Edge what you put in and if your the kind of person that likes improving their scores then Edge is definitely worth the price just for it’s originality and stylish visuals alone. If you aren’t that kind of person then don’t let that stop you but don’t be disappointed when you are finished with it after an hour.
