Although personally I’ve never had this error I’ve known people who have. The system destroying E74 error that Microsoft initially declared out of their control has been re-declared as in their control and 100% their own fault.
We all know about the numerous system failures that can happen when the console starts to fail. Up until now if you had problems you had to pray that the box will throw up the three quarter circles, in an attempt to get a free replacement. Now the E74 will be covered by the same three year extension to the warranty. Apparently only a small percentage of users experienced this problems and the initially disregarded as a non-related issue has been related back to the red ring of death.
As much as I have to applaud Microsoft for their late but good post-sale support of their system, Microsoft and failure seems to go hand in hand. The amount of times I’ve had to re-install XP is ridiculous and my brief seven month period of owning a Zune was met with only two months of working use before I happily sold the thing. Let’s just hope that the next iteration of the 360 is more stable.
If it isn’t will anyone stand for similar problems all over again?
Check out what Microsoft had to say about it and if you had to pay for a E74 repair get your money back.
