The recent patch for Pixeljunk Eden made the game a lot more accessible. Continues and more time were enough to make me revisit my garden and finally get all fifty spectra contained in the game. Eden is a brilliant game but I was left feeling unsatisfied with my reward for effectively one-hundred-percenting the game. Custom soundtracks aren’t a great reward because half the fun of Eden is listening to Baiyon’s minimalist techno soundtrack. Luckily the Pixeljunk team have my back and are preparing a bonus pack of levels and content called Encore.
Much like Monster’s Encore pack, Pixeljunk Eden Encore will offer more levels for those who have cleared the originals. Zero gravity and mirror worlds are two of the known concepts so far and sound insanely promising. Zero gravity has potential. Really it will be interesting to see how these new levels work. Although personally I would like a few more basic levels akin to the originals as sometimes it was nice to relax in a garden without the tense time races that are the latter levels.
These new levels will also boast a new set of tracks from garden designer and producer extraordinaire, Baiyon. The music was a big draw to the original game and it’s nice to see them carrying on with the same artist to ensure that same look and feel.

Encore is also said to boast a ‘big surprise’ towards the end of the game. Let’s just hope that it tops custom soundtracks that where unlocked the first time around. Something like limitless play would be interesting and a much needed addition to the game.
With both Baiyon and president/executive producer at Q-Games, Dylan Cuthbert scheduled to be at GDC at the end of the month, expect to hear more details regarding the game soon.
This extra pack might seem a bit late considering the games original release back in July of last year. But when you factor the recent patch and the rumoured Pixeljunk Dungeons then you can understand. Despite the small amount of information on this downloadable upgrade we are still excited at the prospect of more music, levels and more time to sink into this excellent game.

I can’t freakin’ wait for this to come out. The original game is so good and, I feel, massively underappreciated.
