With the news of the Wii MotionPlus already coming out you have to wonder what else Nintendo have up their sleeve. Nintendo have been promising to appeal to the hardcore market but in recent years we have only seen a casual focused conference.
Obviously we should expect the MotionPlus add-on to be heavily featured including live stage demonstrations. How it works, how much it costs and maybe a couple of games instead of simple tech demos could also be on show. Talking of hardware maybe now we could see that Wii Hard Drive for WiiWare and Virtual Console storage. We might also see additional colours for the Wiimotes and Wii consoles.
As far as new Wii games go it wouldn’t be a long shot to see Animal Crossing for the Wii. Rumoured to be set in a city, Nintendo Official Magazine leaked the fact it would be shown on their magazine blog. They quickly changed it to how they ‘hope’ Animal Crossing would be announced at E3. A new version of Punch Out has also been rumored. We should also see some first party Nintendo WiiWare. We also don’t know about any main Zelda or Mario game so we might see small teasers as far as they are concerned. I’d also love a new Pikmin but that’s not happening.
Apparently this is meant to be the year that Nintendo announce a new First Party franchise. Personally they need to do something as we’ve seen the same IPs repeated over and over again, so a new franchise would be nice. If we don’t, maybe we’ll see Kid Icarus.
Nintendo DS is also rumoured to get a price drop and that would make perfect sense at this time. It would make more sense if they do unveil the ‘new’ DS that’s been rumoured. Apparently it will have wide screen displays and is motion sensitive. If they do make any major updates it won’t be like that as Nintendo won’t want to spilt the fan base. If we see any major upgrades it will be for any prospective DS 2. I’d also like to see some new DS games planned for this fall. Games like Broken Sword & Elebits could be on show.
Rumours for Nintendo that have some substantial evidence have been hard to find and with Nintendo possibly coming from a casual or hardcore prospective. The fact that Nintendo should be surprising us with a few new franchises and other announcements, should make for an interesting press conference indeed.
