Today Activision have announced how Guitar Hero On Tour will work. In case you haven’t heard, On Tour is a spin off for the regular Guitar Hero game as it will be on the DS. Well the games main obstacle is and always has been how the game actually works. Personally I was thinking an Elite Beat Agents clone but we’ve seen enough of them done wrong recently. What we will get is a grip controller that plugs into the GBA slot.

Despite the lack of the orange button the game will still be the same ‘hit-the-buttons-coming-at-you-from-a- fret-board-rhythm-em-up’ affair it has always been. The add-on, thats officially called ‘The Guitar Grip’ will come with the game and stick into the Game Boy Advance slot on the bottom. You will then hold the DS sideways, ala Brain Training, and use a guitar pick to strum on the touch screen. The pick will come with the package and will be concealed in a handy storage slot on the Guitar Grip. Meanwhile the fret board will be on the left screen. Be honest this idea sounds great, it has all the playability of Guitar Hero on the go while also staying true to the original game.

The game will have a career mode where you will play through the games 20+ songs on offer that include bands like Nirvana, OK Go & No Doubt.

Now here is where they lost me. The game will have a battle mode…. Let that sink in for a while. Did anyone else play Guitar Hero 3? Did anyone even like or enjoy the battles. I admit the idea was good but the power ups killed it for me and they are going to do the same for the multiplayer on the DS. For Example one power up will set the other person’s guitar on fire that you’ll have to blow out using the microphone. Another one will have fans attack the other player forcing them to sign autographs. To be honest I can take or leave the games multiplayer but if they force you to do this stuff in the career…

Also there is a rumor thats going around about how you will have to use the microphone to activate star power. Most DS games have to use the system’s functionality to full effect instead of including it because its gimmicky and cool.

Otherwise I’m intrigued, I’d like to hear a little more from the sound track but I’m slightly interested yet skeptical. Really the thing that made me truly indifferent is the teaser trailer that came with the announcement. Check it out below.
